The ruling on supplication after reciting the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We have a circle for reciting the Noble Qur'an, and after completing a part (juz'), one of us makes a supplication and the rest say "Ameen," raising their hands. Is this permissible?

Answer:
There is nothing in the authentic Sunnah that indicates this, but if it is done occasionally, not as a habit, there is no harm. If it is done occasionally, that is fine, but making it a habit, I do not know of any basis for it. It was mentioned in a weak hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do it, but it is a weak hadith, narrated by al-Tirmidhi.
So the point is: if a person makes a supplication, or raises his hands occasionally, and they say "Ameen" to his supplication, there is no blame—may Allah will it—but it should not be made a habit.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. Sometimes, at the end of the supplication, they say: "By the secret of al-Fatihah," and they recite al-Fatihah, hoping that Allah will accept it from them by the blessing of this supplication. Is what they do correct?

The Shaykh: This has no basis. "By the secret of al-Fatihah" has no basis. But reciting al-Fatihah before the supplication, and praising Allah, and extolling Him... supplication is among the causes of acceptance, along with sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). If one recites al-Fatihah, or praises Allah, and sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then makes a supplication, there is no need to say: "By the secret of al-Fatihah." Rather, one should praise Allah, extol Him, send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then supplicate to his Lord with whatever good supplications he wishes. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
