Fatwa No. ( 21186 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and may blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the honorable Director of the Dawah and Guidance Center in the province of Jeddah , regarding his letter No. (791 \ 9 \ 20 \ J) dated 11 \ 10 \ 1420 AH, accompanied by the inquiry submitted by (M. F. D) and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, No. (5050) dated 18 \ 10 \ 1420 AH. The inquirer asked a question, the text of which is as follows: The honorable Director of the Cooperative Office for Dawah, Guidance, and Community Awareness in al-Hamra and Central Jeddah referred to us what was received from the inquirer (M. F. J), stating that the father of a friend of his had collected some supplications that he had chosen, and used to repeat them in his life, and he instructed his son to print them. His friend approached him asking him to bear the cost of printing them . The inquirer wants, before printing them, to verify the correctness of the supplications contained therein, and whether it is advisable to print them or not? We hope you will look into this and inform us of your opinion.
After studying the inquiry, the Committee responded that the supplications found in the Book and the Sunnah are those for which it is prescribed to adhere to them, care for them, preserve them
and disseminate them. As for other supplications composed by various people, they are not like that; because the best of their states is that they are permissible, and they may contain misleading expressions, or incorrect ones, as in the supplications about which the inquiry was made. In them is the author's statement: (I kept it for yourself), and this is not used with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And the author's statement: (O Allah, deal with the disbelievers and polytheists and the Jews , O Allah, do not leave any of them in existence, O Allah, destroy them as You destroyed 'Aad and Thamud). Supplicating for the destruction of all disbelievers is an overreach in supplication; because Allah has decreed their existence and continuation for a wisdom, and Allah does what He wills and judges what He desires. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
