The seventh question of Fatwa No. ( 8864 )

Q7: What are the narrated supplications that we must recite before the taslim in the prayer, that is, before saying: (Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah), and after the taslim?
Vol. 7: Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When any one of you utters tashahhud (in prayer) he must seek refuge with Allah from four (trials) and should thus say:" O Allah! I seek refuge with Thee from the torment of the Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trial of life and death and from the evil of the trial of Masih al-Dajjal" (Antichrist).إذا تشهد أحدكم فليستعذ بالله من أربع يقول: اللهم إني أعوذ بك من عذاب جهنم ومن عذاب القبر ومن فتنة المحيا والممات ومن شر فتنة المسيح الدجال
Sahih Muslim 588a
This is the wording of Muslim , who recorded it in the Book of Mosques, in the chapter on what one seeks refuge from in prayer, and al-Bukhari agreed with him regarding seeking refuge but did not mention the tashahhud; he recorded it in the Book of Funerals, in the chapter on seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave. And in the narration of Abu Dawud :
When one of you has finished the tashahhud, let him seek refuge with Allah from four thingsإذا فرغ أحدكم من التشهد فليتعوذ بالله من أربع
Sunan ad-Darimi 2:155
... and he mentioned it, recording it in the Book of Prayer, in the chapter on what is said after the tashahhud. And al-Nasa'i added:
Then let him pray for himself asking whatever he wants.ثم ليدع لنفسه بما بدا له
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1310Sahih (Darussalam)
He recorded it, al-Nasa'i , in the Book of Forgetfulness, in the chapter on another type of seeking refuge in prayer. And from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was taught (by Allah). He then narrated the tradition to the same effect. Sharik reported from Jami', from AbuWa'il on the authority of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud something similar. He said: He used to teach us also some other words, but he did not teach them as he taught us the tashahhud: O Allah, join our hearts, mend our social relationship, guide us to the path of peace, bring us from darkness to light, save us from obscenities, outward or inward, and bless our ears, our eyes, our hearts, our wives, our children, and relent toward us; Thou art the Relenting, the Merciful. And make us grateful for Thy blessing and make us praise it while accepting it and give it to us in full.
Sunan Abi Dawud 969
He recorded it, Abu Dawud , in the Book of Prayer, in the chapter on the tashahhud, and al-Hakim narrated it in (al-Mustadrak) with two chains, and he graded it authentic, and al-Dhahabi agreed with him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
