Wearing Tight Trousers
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 4257 )
Q: What is the ruling on wearing trousers if they are tight-fitting, and if they are loose, if they are an imitation of what the Westerners wear, if they differ from them in the shape of the trousers (the cut), what is the ruling on wearing the suit, and the ruling on what they call the necktie (the cravat) and other garments of the disbelievers, does it change its ruling that it has become a custom of the Muslims, such that the common people do not think that there is imitating the disbelievers in them? And finally, what is the clothing that a Muslim can wear in this time, so what is the ruling of Allah in all these things, may Allah have mercy on you?
A: The original ruling regarding clothing is that it is permissible, except for what the Shari'ah has excluded absolutely; such as gold for men, and silk for them, except for leprosy or the like, and wearing trousers is not specific to the disbelievers, but wearing the tight kind that outlines the parts of the body, even the private parts, is not permissible, as for the loose kind, it is permissible, except if one intends by wearing it to imitate the disbelievers who wear it, and likewise wearing the suit and the necktie (the cravat) is not clothing specific to the disbelievers, so it is permissible, except if
one intends by wearing it to imitate them. In summary, the original ruling regarding clothing is permissibility, except for what the legal evidence indicates is prohibited, as mentioned above. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
