The second question of fatwa number ( 17314 )
Q 2: I am the imam of a mosque in our village, and I receive a salary for that. When I finished my secondary education, I moved to the city to complete my studies. I asked the mosque congregation for permission, and they granted it. Is it permissible for me to receive the salary? If it is not permissible, what must be done, especially since I do not want to lose my job after returning from my studies?
A 2: If you have moved from the village to a distant location where you are unable to perform the imamah of the aforementioned mosque, it is not permissible for you to remain in the position of imam and receive the imam’s salary while you are not performing the work. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
