Students signing for one another to prove attendance

Fatwa number ( 15768 )
Q: In the College of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, the lecturer brings a list of student names and asks each student present in the lecture to sign next to his name. However, some of the brother students sign for their own names and for the names of some of their classmates who did not attend the lecture. What is the ruling on this action? Knowing that: 1 - A specific amount is deducted from the monthly stipend of a student who is absent from a certain number of lectures. 2 - A student is prevented from entering the final exam if his absence reaches a certain percentage of the total number of lectures, for example 20%, and this is what frightens us most. Is it permissible for a student to sign for his absent classmate if the classmate's absence is due to an excuse, such as sleep, illness, or travel? And is it permissible for a student to sign for his absent classmate, and then for the absent student to give out what would have been deducted from him—that is, to donate it—so that he is not prevented from
the final exam at the end of the year? Please inform us in detail, as this matter concerns me and all the brother students. I ask you, Your Eminence, to reply to this letter in writing to my address mentioned below, and may Allah reward you and the Muslims with the best reward in this world and the Hereafter. Indeed, He is All-Hearing, Near, and Responsive to supplication.
A: If the situation is as you described, then this action is forbidden for you, because it is a form of deception. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Ibn Majah 2225Da'if (Darussalam) . Therefore, what you have done in the past requires you to repent from it, and as for the future, do not return to such a matter. The excuses you mentioned are a matter for the college administration that the student belongs to. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
