The Covering of the Ka'bah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa number ( 21672 )
Q 4: Was the Ka'bah covered in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or when did the covering begin, who was the first to cover it, and what was the reason? This question was posed when a questioner asked: What is bid'ah (religious innovation)? So I answered him with the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
. He then asked: Was the covering of the Ka'bah by his order - (peace and blessings be upon him) - or did it begin in his time?

A 4 : The covering of the Ka'bah is a known and famous matter, dating back to centuries before the mission of the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) - . The historians have differed regarding the identification of the first person to cover it; it was said to be: Tubba' , it was said to be: Isma'il , it was said to be: 'Adnan , and other things have been said. And knowing this has no legal benefit behind it. When Allah brought Islam, the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) - approved the covering of the Ka'bah , and he said on the day of the Conquest, when the statement of Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah to Abu Sufyan was mentioned to him: (O Abu Sufyan : Today is the day of slaughter, today the Ka'bah is made lawful), he said, may the prayers and peace be upon him:
Sa`d told a lie, but today Allah will give superiority to the Ka`ba and today the Ka`ba will be covered with a (cloth) covering.كذب سعد ، ولكن هذا يوم يعظم الله فيه الكعبة ، ويوم تكسى فيه الكعبة
Sahih al-Bukhari 4280
He mentioned it al-Bukhari in (his Sahih) as a mursal (report missing the Companion link). Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in (his commentary): So the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) - indicated that he is the one who will cover it in that year, and that happened. End of quote. And the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did that, and the Muslims inherited this, and the Caliphs and kings of Islam competed in magnifying the Ka'bah by covering it
every year, until our present time, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
