The third question of Fatwa No. ( 6430 )
Q3: What is the ruling regarding a Muslim man who traveled on the back of
an airplane crowded with passengers, and found himself in one or more of the following situations: A- He found himself surrounded by women from all directions, such that he sits between two, with one in front of him and the other behind him. B- He found himself sitting face to face with a woman who is a stranger to him, whether she is Arab or otherwise. C- He found himself sitting next to a woman who is a stranger (and she may be an old woman nearing death). D- He found his seat opposite the seat of a flight attendant, who sits for a short period at the airplane's takeoff and another at its landing, knowing that sometimes there are no other empty seats to move to, and the other passengers refuse to switch with him, and at that time the airplane officials cannot do anything to change an unsuitable situation.
A3: If you are in dire necessity to travel by this airplane, and your situation is limited to the conditions you mentioned, and it is a forced stroke - then choose the one with the least fitnah (trial, discord or temptation); acting on the principle of committing the lesser of two harms, and the lesser of two corruptions, while lowering the gaze as much as possible. And if you are not in dire necessity to travel by it and your situation is not limited to what was mentioned - then seek safety from what befalls you in your religion.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
