Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the deputy of the second intermediate school in 'Aqif , and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, with number (7095) and date 3/12/1419 AH. The inquirer asked a question, the text of which is as follows: We submit this inquiry to you from the second intermediate school in 'Aqif
in 'Aqif , where a striking paper has recently spread among the students of the school, titled "Be My Friend," some printed on a computer and some handwritten—as attached. The method of this paper, as we have learned from the students, is as follows: You choose the hidden letter of your friend in your mind, whether it is male or female. Example: The letter Ba carries the number (6). You place a side paper to collect the numbers for the final sum. Then you choose the color of the eyes. Example: (Brown) carries the number (4). Then you choose his place of origin. Example: ( Saudi Arabia ) number (1), and so on for the rest until the end ("Where you meet him"). The points—numbers—that you have obtained are summed up, then the paper is turned over to get the result that your friend harbors and how he treats you. If the sum happens to be (33), the result is (He hates you intensely), and so on for the rest.

After the Committee's study of the inquiry, it answered as follows: The aforementioned paper titled "Be My Friend," which explains how to reach a friend through a naive method using letters and numbers, is one of the new methods of astrologers and superstitious people, and it contains obvious and clear manipulation of minds and feelings. Therefore, it is not permissible
to work with this paper, nor is it permissible to publish it or promote it among students and other common people. If this paper is found in someone's possession, he must be advised and the act must be condemned, and this is part of cooperating in righteousness and piety and giving advice to Muslims. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
