The claim that the jinn inhabit certain trees and harm those who cut them down
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 18615 )
Q1: Most people among us believe that the jinn inhabit the fig tree and the sidr tree, and they say: that merely cutting down these two trees will cause them harm through the touch of the jinn or an affliction of the body. Is this belief permissible, does it fall under the category of shirk (associating partners with Allah), and how do we explain the occurrence of
this phenomenon?
A1 : The dwelling of the jinn is not restricted to a specific tree or a specific place. It is prescribed (mashru') for the Muslim to increase in the remembrance of Allah and to seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created, in order to be protected thereby from the jinn and others. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
