I swore an oath and forbade something to a person dear to me so that he would take his due from me

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 20412 )
Q 3: Previously, I swore an oath and forbade something to a person dear to me
so that he would take his due from me, and he promised me that he would take his due, but he delayed greatly, and until now he has not come
to take his due. My intention in the oath and the prohibition was determination, not the prohibition of my family. What do you advise me to do in this matter? May Allah reward you a thousand times for us?

A 3: If the situation is as you described, that your intention with this oath and prohibition was to urge this person to accept what you swore to, with determination in that and no intention of divorce, then that is an oath requiring expiation. If this person does not accept what you swore to him to take, then you are obligated to pay the expiation for an oath, which is feeding ten poor people, with each poor person receiving one and a half kilograms of wheat or rice or whatever the people of the country eat as their staple, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If you do not find the means or are unable to do so, then it is obligatory for you to fast for three days. We advise you to guard your oaths so that you do not bind yourself to something you cannot fulfill, thereby falling into sin and difficulty. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
