The meat of cattle slaughtered by those who worship other than Allah for their deceased

Fatwa No. ( 3017 )
Q: Some people in my country worship other than Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). They have a custom that is followed and inherited, which is: whenever a person dies among them, they slaughter a sacrificial animal for him, such as a cow, a sheep, or other livestock. They have a specific way of doing this. After slaughtering the animal, its meat is distributed to some of the Muslims around them. When the meat is distributed to them, the Muslims refuse to take it because it is forbidden. When they heard the Muslims' answer refusing to take the meat, they said to them: "Take this cow and slaughter it in your way and eat from it, so that it will be charity for this deceased who worships other than Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He)." Is it permissible for us to take this cow, slaughter it in the Islamic way, and distribute its meat to the Muslims, or is it not permissible? And is doing this considered participation in their actions? May Allah reward you with good.
A: Worshipping other than Allah, such as making vows or seeking help from other than Allah, from the dead, the absent, trees, and the like, is shirk (associating partners with Allah). It was good of those who refused to take the meat of cattle slaughtered by those who worship other than Allah for their deceased. There is no harm in taking the live cows or cattle that these people offer to be slaughtered in the Islamic way, provided they do not specifically choose the time of the deceased's death for the slaughter. And there is nothing in that
participation in their bid'ah (religious innovation). Nor are they permitted to intend by slaughtering it or distributing it charity for the deceased if this deceased is one who worships other than Allah. If they intend to slaughter it at the time of his death or to carry it with his funeral procession, it is not permissible; because of the participation in their bid'ah that is involved in that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
