The Ruling on Slaughter for Other Than Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a question from a questioner in Syria who says: Is it permissible to slaughter for other than Allah? Because we have people who slaughter for a man named Majli, and when we ask who Majli is, they say he is a prophet from the prophets of Allah. Please inform us about that, may Allah reward you.
Answer: Slaughter for other than Allah is a great evil and it is major shirk (associating partners with Allah), whether that is for a prophet, a wali (close friend of Allah), a star, a jinn, an idol, or anything else. Because Allah the Exalted says:
Say, "Indeed, my prayerقُلْ إِنَّ صَلاتِي
[Al-An'am: 162], meaning: Say, O Muhammad,
My prayer and my sacrifice
[Al-An'am: 162], meaning: My slaughter
my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. (163) No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first [among you] of the Muslims."وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ۝ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
[Al-An'am: 162-163]. So He the Exalted informed that slaughter is for Allah just as prayer is for Allah. So whoever diverts slaughter to other than Allah is like one who prays to other than Allah; it becomes shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah Mighty and Majestic. And thus He the Exalted says:
(1) Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar. (2) So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].
[Al-Kawthar: 1-2]. So the sacrifice and the prayer are two great acts of worship. So whoever diverts slaughter to the people of graves, or to the prophets, or to the stars, or to the idols, or to the jinn, or to the angels, has associated partners with Allah, just as if he prayed to them, or called upon them for aid, or made vows to them. All of this is shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah . And Allah the Exalted says:
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
[Al-Jinn: 18]. And He says :
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
[Adh-Dhariyat: 56]. And He the Exalted says:
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Himوَقَضَى رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ
[Al-Isra: 23]. So worship is the right of Allah, and slaughter is from worship, and thus calling for aid is from worship, and thus prayer is from worship. And it is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Allah cursed him who sacrificed for anyone besides Allah
Sahih Muslim 1978b
Narrated by Imam Muslim in his Sahih from the hadith of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) . So you must disapprove of these people and teach them that this is major shirk (associating partners with Allah), and that it is obligatory for them to leave that. It is not permissible for them to slaughter for other than Allah, just as it is not permissible for them to pray to other than Allah. And this is from the category of cooperating in righteousness and piety, and from the category of forbidding what is wrong, and from the category of calling to Allah and making worship sincere for Allah, and from the category of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) which must be for Him alone . And this is the duty of the scholars, the duty of the students of knowledge, and the duty of the prominent Muslims to cooperate in righteousness and piety and to disapprove of shirk (associating partners with Allah) with whoever does it, until tawhid (the oneness of Allah) becomes manifest and until the causes of shirk (associating partners with Allah) are eliminated. We ask Allah for success and guidance for everyone. Yes.
