An error in a word that was not intended to be spoken about

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 7983 )
Q: For more than three years, Allah guided me after a period of misguidance, and I felt the light of faith and its sweetness. However, I was careless about some matters, such as sitting with some friends who are not highly committed, and they talk about various things, some of which are bad. I did not realize the danger of these gatherings until I found my tongue following their style, even making mistakes in speaking about religion. Then Allah guided me, so I distanced myself from these gatherings. For about a year, I have monitored my tongue so that it does not lead me into destruction, and I have often been able to overcome the desire to speak about what is useless or to join people in their idle talk. But I committed a sin from which I ask Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for safety. It is that one of the friends said to me: "I am inviting you to a cold drink," and I found myself saying to him: "If you are determined, then rely on Allah." Due to my poor memory, I was not certain that it was a verse in the Qur'an, and I fear that my words were a figurative interpretation of the verse. We Egyptians say: "I am inviting you to something," with the purpose of inviting to a feast or to drinking juice or something similar, and the verse means, and Allah knows best, determination to do the thing and reliance on
Allah in it. Satan confused me, and I found my tongue uttering the verse despite my hesitation while saying it. Before finishing it, I regretted it intensely afterwards, even though it came spontaneously and in idle conversation, and was not intentional in interpretation, may Allah protect us from that. More than two months have passed since this matter, but I heard a tape of the Shaykh 'Abd al-Hamid Kashk in which he declares as disbelievers those who mock the verses of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) or play with them. Fear entered my heart, and I fear that I am among those to whom that applies. I am now living in anxiety, distress, and fear that I have fallen into what is forbidden. I confirm to your eminence that my words were a quick, spontaneous response, and I could not hold back my tongue. I intend to perform Hajj, if Allah wills, this year, hoping for repentance from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for all my sins, and determined not to return to it, if He wills. So what is your eminence's fatwa regarding what my tongue erred in, and does Hajj, if Allah wills, expiate this evil deed ? May Allah reward you with all good.

A: First: Praise Allah that He guided you to good, cast the light of faith into your heart, and enabled you to avoid the people of evil and distance yourself from their gatherings. We hope that Allah will keep you firm upon that and increase you in His favor with success and guidance. Second: If your situation regarding the word that came from you is as you described, that it slipped from your tongue without intending to mention anything from the Qur'an, and that you regretted it and repented to Allah, then there is no sin and no blame
on you. We ask Allah to forgive us and you. Third: If you have not performed Hajj to the Sacred House and you have the ability financially and physically, then perform Hajj to fulfill the obligation of Hajj, for it is a pillar of Islam. By doing so, you will gain reward and an increase in reward and a stronger connection to Allah, and Allah will remove your sins by His success and kindness. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
