The questioner : O esteemedThe Shaykh : In some gatherings, it happens that one of the attendees speaks words intended for amusement, or delivers them in the form of riddles, but it appears to the listener that they touch upon matters of creed. Among such things is saying: "I have on earth what Allah does not have in the heavens," meaning by this his wife and children, and Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is free from having a companion and children. He also says: "There is no praise for the heedless one, nor thanks to him," and his intention by "the heedless one" is the one whose worldly life has made him heedless of his Hereafter. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah in your view regarding this?
And what is your advice to one who says such words?
The Shaykh : I see that this speech is forbidden, because it suggests a false meaning, even if he will explain what he intends. However, Satan will leave the effect of that in the heart of the one addressed or the listener. I advise the one who speaks this; I say to him: Listen to the saying of Allah the Exalted, or read the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Qaf 50:18] And know that if your word leads to disbelief or doubt, the reckoning is upon you.
So every believer must respect the side of truth, the side of the Lord (Mighty and Majestic), and know that the matter is serious. And refuge is sought in Allah, or more than that. So I see that this speech is reprehensible, and that it is not permissible for a person to utter it. And it is obligatory for the one who hears it to advise him. If he reforms, the reward is for him and for the one who advised him. If he does not reform, it is obligatory for him to leave the place where such speech is uttered.
