Q: What is the ruling on cigarettes and shisha? Are they forbidden or disliked? If they are forbidden, I want the evidence from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, what is the ruling on one who smokes cigarettes and shisha while in the state of ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah? Please provide the answer with the evidence, and thank you.
A: Smoking cigarettes and shisha is forbidden; because of the harm involved, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Sunan Ibn Majah 2340Da'if (Darussalam) , and because they are among the impure things, and Allah the Exalted said: [Al-A'raf 7:157] Spending money on them is a form of extravagance, and Allah the Exalted has forbidden that, saying: [Al-Isra 17:26] If Satan plays with a person and he smokes them, he has done wrong, and he must repent and seek forgiveness, hoping that Allah will forgive him and accept his repentance. If this happens to him during Hajj or 'Umrah, it does not invalidate his Hajj or his 'Umrah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
