The Ruling on the Secret Habit

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 1376 )
Q: The content of the question is that he performs what Allah has made obligatory upon him, such as prayer and fasting, etc., but his problem is that he engages in the secret habit, and he asks about the ruling of Islam in that matter?
A: The correct opinion among the scholars regarding masturbation by hand, known as the secret habit, is that it is forbidden. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars; due to the generality of the statement of Allah the Exalted:
(5) And they who guard their private parts (6) Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed - (7) But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ (5) إِلا عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ (6) فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ
[Al-Mu'minun 23:5-7]
, whereby He praised those who guard their private parts and do not satisfy their desire except with their wives or their slave women, and He ruled that whoever satisfies his desire in anything beyond that, whatever it may be, is a transgressor who has exceeded what Allah has made lawful for him. Masturbation by hand (the secret habit) falls under the generality of this. Also, because engaging in it has many harms and severe consequences, including: the exhaustion of strength and the weakening of the nerves. The Islamic Shari'ah has prohibited what harms a person in
his religion, his body, his mind, his wealth, and his honor. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
