He had a dispute with his wife's father, who said, "Consider your daughter finished if she does not return to her house, and I will end her matter."

Fatwa No. ( 2415 )
Q: He prevented his wife from going to a certain house, but her father allowed her to go, and she left his house open without locking it with the key. There was some inappropriate talk between him and her father regarding the people of the house she went to. He said to him: "Consider your daughter finished if she does not return to her house, and I will end her matter." However, when she returned to the house, he sought refuge from Satan and did not end her matter. His intention was to urge her to return to the house, and his uncle asked for a fatwa.
A: If the situation is as you described, that you did not intend by what you said to your uncle anything other than urging her to return to the house, and that you did not end her matter afterwards, then you owe nothing; because this statement is in the category of threatening with divorce or intending it without pronouncing it, and that does not constitute a divorce, and your wife remains in your protection. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
