The third question of Fatwa No. ( 17705 )
Q3: I hope you will kindly speak about the matters that must be followed during the waiting period, such as: clothing, talking on the telephone, and going out to visit neighbors .
A3: It is forbidden for a woman in the waiting period due to her husband's death to wear adornment in the form of clothing or jewelry, and it is forbidden for her to adorn her body with henna, kohl, or cosmetic materials. There is no harm in removing what causes her discomfort, and in performing the Sunnah by cutting the nails and plucking the hair that is prescribed to be removed from the body. It is forbidden for her to use perfume of any kind on her body or her clothing. She is obligated to remain in the marital home until she completes the waiting period. It is permissible for her to go out for her needs during the day, but not at night. It is permissible for her to talk on the telephone if it does not lead to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
