Fatwa number ( 7700 )
Q: I present this request to your eminence, in which I clarify to you that I have a mother. My father passed away thirty years ago. At the time of his death, we were four small children: two sons and two daughters. Allah knows the circumstances of that time regarding the need for a livelihood. Our mother was the one who earned our living at that time, and she did not observe the mourning period for my father after his death. The reason she left off the mourning period was that if she had entered into it, there would have been no one to provide us with our daily bread. Today, my mother is inquiring from your permissibility whether she has any obligation? And is it permissible for her to observe the mourning period now? Please inform her, may Allah preserve you and guide your steps to the pleasure of the Lord, Exalted and Majestic.
A: If the matter is as you described, there is no blame on her regarding what has passed. She should seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
