The questioner : After the death of any person, he waits forty days until, for example, after he gets married or takes, meaning any displays of adornment. So what is the ruling of the Shari'ah in this?
The Shaykh : This is among the newly invented matters, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani), this is from one aspect.
And from another aspect, these people who adhere to these traditions and bad customs, as if their unspoken words make us feel that they are not satisfied with the divine decree and destiny of Allah. So, did the One who decreed death also decree life and make marriage one of the causes of life? Then everything must proceed in its course without any objection or deviation. So if a relative dies and one of the deceased's relatives was on the verge of getting married, if he gets married, this does not mean that he is not concerned about the death of the relative. Also, when the deceased dies, it is permissible for a person to grieve for him for three days, but it must be lawful grief, meaning there is no wailing, no commotion, and no objection to the divine decree and destiny of Allah.
The student: Peace be upon you.
The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
The Shaykh : This is among the newly invented matters, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error
