Manifestations of the Difference Between the People of the Sunnah and the Mu'tazilah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the difference and disagreement between the sect of the Mu'tazilah and the people of the Sunnah, and are there any among the Mu'tazilah who are like the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?

Answer:
The Mu'tazilah are a deviant, innovating sect that denied the attributes of Allah. They said: He is not All-Knowing, not Wise, not All-Hearing, and not All-Seeing. We seek refuge in Allah. They denied the attributes of Allah and said: whoever dies in a state of disobedience will be eternally in the Fire. They said the fornicator will be eternally in the Fire, and the drinker of intoxicants will be eternally in the Fire, and so on for the rest of the sinners, such as the Khawarij and those similar to them.

In conclusion: The Mu'tazilah are an innovator sect with many misguidances. The greatest and most heinous of them is that they say: Allah has no attributes. So He is not All-Knowing, nor All-Hearing, nor All-Seeing, nor Alive, nor Self-Sustaining, nor anything else. This is disbelief and misguidance—we seek refuge in Allah. And they say—we also seek refuge in Allah—that the sinner is eternally in the Fire.
As for the people of the Sunnah, they say: No, the sinner is not eternally in the Fire, if he is a monotheist and a Muslim, under the will of Allah. If he dies in disobedience, it is under the will of Allah; because Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Himنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَنْ يُشْرَكَ بِهِ
[Al-Nisa: 48] Then He said after that:
And He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills.وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ
If Allah wills, He forgives him if he dies upon it because of his Islam, his prayer, and his fasting. And if Allah wills, He punishes him according to what he has of zina and other sins, after He purifies and refines him; Allah takes him out of the Fire into Paradise. This is the saying of the people of the Sunnah and the community, the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who followed them with excellence. As for the Mu'tazilah, they are contrary to that—we ask Allah for safety—and so are the Khawarij, they are contrary to that.
