Zihar from his wife three times
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 8783 )
Q: I am a young Muslim, praise be to Allah, and I am married. I have five children from my wife, who caused this problem. I was in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance before Islam, and an incident occurred from me: I said to my wife: (You are to me like the back of my mother) . After another year, I said it a second time, and after a third year, I said it a third time. After this period, I left her. I am waiting for your fatwa on this—has she become forbidden to me or not? And what should I do? I have five children from her, and I do not know the punishment for this statement?
A: Your saying to your wife: (You are to me like the back of my mother) is explicit zihar. It is obligatory for you to pay the expiation for zihar, which is: freeing a slave. If you do not find one, then you fast two consecutive months. If you are unable to do so, then you feed sixty poor people. This is to be done before you approach your wife, since this zihar occurred from you three times. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
