Fatwa number ( 4675 )
Q: Does Islamic law permit me to marry a girl who works in a mixed administration, despite her family, including her parents, insisting that she continue working after marriage? If the answer is negative, does the Shari'ah permit her to stand against them, and what is the approach you advise her to follow in light of Islamic teachings to get out of this dilemma?
A: First: It is not permissible for a Muslim to marry a girl who works in a mixed administration where men and women mix in a way that leads to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), or where a man is secluded with her, except on the condition that she gives up this job; because it is a source of corruption and a means to looseness and deviation. Second: If her parents or others order her to work in this job, she should not obey them; because obedience is only obligatory in what is right. Rather, she should refrain from that job and stand against whoever orders her to do it, preferring the obedience of Allah and His Messenger, and preserving her honor and religion over the obedience of her guardian, even if it is her parents; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani) .
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
