Q4: Is it permissible for a free man to marry a slave woman?
A 4: It is permissible for a free Muslim man to marry a Muslim slave woman if he cannot afford a mahr to marry a free woman or the price of a slave woman, and he fears the hardship of remaining single due to the need for pleasure, or service because he is old or sick or similar, even if his free wife is young, absent, or sick. The basis for this is the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:25] the verse. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
