What Keeps a Person Away from Forbidden Matters

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 14778 )
Q: What are the things that keep a person away from these desires, such as unlawful sexual intercourse and illicit relations, and what is the difference between the one who commits them and the one who abstains from them? And what is the beneficial means that will help me establish the prayer? Because I pray for a day or part of a day and then leave it for some days?
A: What keeps a person away from these forbidden matters is the fear of Allah and the hope in the pleasure He has for the obedient and the Fire for the disobedient. When the Muslim truly knows his Lord, that He is Allah, the One, the Unique, the All-Aware of all the states and secrets of people, that He is the Mighty who cannot be overcome, the All-Capable of everything, the All-Encompassing of everything, and that He created man in this world to worship and obey Him, and that He placed him in a state of trial and examination to reward the successful one who follows His commands and avoids His prohibitions with Paradise, and to reward the disobedient one who opposes His commands and commits His prohibitions with the Fire, and that in Paradise there is eternal pleasure that does not end, and in the Fire there is severe torment that cannot be endured, when the Muslim knows this, he will have fear of Allah and hope in what is with Him. You must avoid what arouses desire in your soul, such as places of nakedness, singing, and entertainment, and looking at women. You must keep the company of the righteous, and occupy yourself with what benefits you in matters of this world and religion, and read some books that benefit you, such as
(Riyad al-Salihin), along with frequent recitation of the Qur'an. Whoever is saved from these sins may be hoped for good, an increase in ranks, and elevation in the Hereafter; for it is authentic that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There are seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day on which there is no shade except His shadeسبعة يظلهم الله في ظله يوم لا ظل إلا ظله
Muwatta Malik 51:14
... and he mentioned among them:
a youth who grew up with the worship of Allah; a person whose heart is attached to the mosques; two persons who love and meet each other and depart from each other for the sake of Allah; a man whom a beautiful woman of high rank seduces (for illicit relation), but he (rejects this offer by saying):" I fear Allah"شابٌ نشأ في عبادة الله، ورجلٌ دعته امرأة ذات منصب وجمال فقال: إني أخاف الله
Sahih Muslim 1031a
. As for abandoning the prayers, it is disbelief in Allah; for he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة فمن تركها فقد كفر
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
