The first question of Fatwa number ( 16128 )
Q1: What is the reality of the Prayer of Companionship , which is a prayer performed on the day of the deceased's burial after the Maghrib prayer? Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) perform it, and how?
A1: The aforementioned Prayer of Companionship is among the newly invented prayers, so it is a religious innovation (bid'ah) and is not permissible; because acts of worship are based on being restricted to what is prescribed by explicit text, so Allah is not worshipped except by what He has legislated. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih Muslim 1718a . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
