May a marriage officer contract a marriage for himself?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 1764 )
Q1: Is it permissible for a marriage officer to contract a marriage for himself, and to take money from the one for whom the marriage is contracted, either at the request of the one contracting it or paid by the one for whom it is contracted without a request?
A1: First: It is permissible for a marriage officer to contract a marriage for himself if the pillars and conditions of the marriage are met and its impediments are absent. Second: If the one for whom the marriage is contracted pays money to the marriage officer without the officer's request, or at his request, the officer may take it if he does not receive a salary from the public treasury for his work. If he does receive from the public treasury, it is not permissible for him to take it.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
