Delivering a sermon at wedding halls
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 11772 )
Q: Sometimes, when wedding parties are held in wedding halls, hotels, or elsewhere, the bride’s or groom’s family asks one of the students of knowledge to deliver a word to admonish the people and remind them. Usually, this word is about matters of marriage, extravagance in inflating mahr, or extravagance in wedding feasts, or the forbidden things that occur there, such as photography, free mixing of men and women, singing, and the like. Some brothers objected to this on the grounds that they are celebrations, and that admonition is not done at celebrations. What is the solution in such a matter? May Allah reward you with good.
A: There is no harm in delivering a beneficial lecture to the attendees, enjoining good and forbidding evil, at a wedding party. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
