Q2: When my marriage contract was signed, my husband paid me an advance portion of the mahr, and the remainder was written in the contract to be paid at one of two times: death or divorce. My question here is: Do I have the right to take it at a time other than these two, that is, while my husband is still alive? Since he wants to pay me the amount willingly, without a divorce occurring, do I have the right to take the deferred amount?
A2: It is permissible for you to receive your deferred mahr before its due time if your husband pays it to you willingly. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
