She fasted eight days of last Ramadan due to menstruation, but at that time she was not praying; she was only fasting Ramadan, but now

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : She says that she fasted the last eight days of last Ramadan due to menstruation, but at that time she was not praying; she was only fasting Ramadan, but now, praise be to Allah, she has regretted her negligence and abandonment of prayer and has repented to Allah. Therefore, she asks: Does she have to make up only those eight days, or does she have to make up the entire month? And is fasting accepted while abandoning prayer?

The Shaykh : If she was abandoning prayer absolutely, not praying at all, then abandoning prayer is disbelief that takes a person out of the religion. A disbeliever is not commanded to make up what is obligatory for a Muslim in terms of acts of worship, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them قُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَنتَهُوا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ
[Al-Anfal 8:38]
. Accordingly, if the month of Ramadan that passed for her passed while she was not praying at all, then her fasting is not valid, and she is not required to make it up if she becomes a Muslim. And as long as she has now become a Muslim by returning to performing prayer, it is not obligatory for her to make up what she left behind when she abandoned prayer, as we mentioned earlier.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
