Leaving the menstruating woman from making up what she missed of fasting in Ramadan
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 15486 )
Q1: A woman used to have her menstrual period during Ramadan, and when the month ended, she did not make up the fasting or the prayer, but she did not know—meaning: she was ignorant of the knowledge—what was required of her to do ? Knowing that she was doing so in ignorance. Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
A1: She must make up the fasting for the number of days she missed in Ramadan due to menstruation, whether that was in one year or over several years, and she must feed with
the making up, for each day, a poor person half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of the staple food of the country for the delay until another Ramadan; if she is able to feed, and if she is poor, fasting suffices. As for the prayer that is left during the time of menstruation, it is not made up; because of the statement of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her): (We used to make up the fasting and not make up the prayer).
