A5: The origin of enslavement lies in the captives taken by the believers in their jihad against the disbelievers. The commander of the believers' army sees to their distribution
among the spoils-takers. Whoever is allotted to a Muslim becomes his slave or his female slave, and the offspring of female slaves are slaves or female slaves, unless the female slave is impregnated by her master. Thus, it is known that slavery may continue to a time when there is no jihad, but through the offspring of female slaves by other than their masters. And one who is freed from among the slaves and female slaves does not become a slave or a female slave again unless a disbeliever is captured in the jihad of the Muslims against the disbelievers. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
