A4: The meaning of the word[An-Nisa 4:3] in the Shari'ah is: what a person owns of slaves or female slaves or others, by a lawful ownership. It is not permissible for the owner of a slave or a female slave to dispose of them according to his desire or his pure opinion, but rather according to the justice prescribed by Allah. He uses them in permissible work that they are capable of, and he may have intercourse with his unmarried female slave. If she becomes pregnant from him, she becomes the mother of his child, and it is not permissible for him to sell her; rather, she becomes free upon his death. It is not permissible for him to separate the female slave from her child. This is in addition to other rulings prescribed by Allah regarding the just disposal of the master over his slave and female slave, including what is permitted and what is forbidden. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
