The Meaning of the Statement of the Exalted: (Or What Their Right Hands Possess)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Almighty, the Wise says:
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ
[Al-Mu’minun:1] up to His statement:
And they who guard their private parts
[Al-Mu'minun 23:5]
except with their wives or what their right hands possess [Al-Mu’minun:5-6]. What is the meaning of His statement:
or those their right hands possessأوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ
[Al-Mu’minun:6]? Is this applicable in our current time, or was it specific to the time of the Messenger ﷺ?
Answer: These are great verses in which the Exalted described the people of faith who are promised al-Firdaus, the highest part of Paradise. He, the Exalted, said:
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۝
[Al-Mu'minun 23:1]
who are humble in their prayers [Al-Mu’minun:1-2]. Success is the attainment and victory in all good and happiness. Describing them with humility in prayer means turning to it, finding tranquility in it, and being present in heart.
And they who turn away from ill speech
[Al-Mu’minun:3], meaning: they turned away from everything that is not appropriate, such as shirk (associating partners with Allah) and sins, and anything that has no benefit. They turned away from it and occupied themselves with deeds and words that benefit them.
And those who are doers of zakah
[Al-Mu’minun:4], the purification of wealth, status, and the self. So the believer purifies his self by obeying Allah and His Messenger, purifies his status by interceding for good and benefiting people, and purifies his wealth by paying the rights due in it, such as zakah.
And they who guard their private parts
[Al-Mu'minun 23:5]
except with their wives or what their right hands possess, then they are not to be blamed [Al-Mu’minun:5-6]. The believer is like this, and the believing woman is like this. So the believer guards his private parts except from his wife or what his right hand possesses, and the believing woman likewise guards her private parts except from her husband and her master, who possesses her by a lawful right. This is the meaning of the verse:
And they who guard their private parts
[Al-Mu'minun 23:5]
except with their wives or what their right hands possess, then they are not to be blamed [Al-Mu’minun:5-6]. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
