If a man marries a second wife, is the first wife entitled to the mahr?

Fatwa number ( 2796 )
Q: The content is that he has a wife and married another wife, and the first wife asked him to give her jewelry like what he gives the second. Is he obligated to give her or not?
A: It is not obligatory for a man who marries a woman to give his first wife the same as what he gives the second in terms of mahr or jewelry that is customary as part of the mahr. If he gives her that to please her and comfort her, it is good, especially if his interest lies in pleasing her and treating her well in the future. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
