What is the 'Aqiqah and the Walimah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 3618 )
Q5: What is the 'Aqiqah and the Walimah?
A5: The 'Aqiqah is what is slaughtered for the newborn as a thanksgiving to Allah for His gift. The Walimah is the food served to the guests at a wedding—whether from a slaughtered animal or otherwise—of whatever food is available. It is a recommended practice (sunnah) as a thanksgiving to Allah. Among its benefits are announcing the joy and the marriage. The term is also applied to food to which people are invited, even if it is not for a wedding.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
