The Call to the 'Aqiqah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 4400 )
Q1: Regarding the 'aqiqah, Sa'd ibn 'Abd al-Rahman said, “Everyone who knows him in the Kingdom, from the senior scholars, and those who have looked into the practice of the Salaf of the Ummah, calls people to perform the 'aqiqah for their children, and no one has denied them this up to this day.”
A1: The 'aqiqah : is what is slaughtered on the seventh day after birth; as a thanksgiving to Allah for the child He has bestowed, whether male or female. It is a recommended practice (sunnah) due to the hadiths reported regarding it. The one who performs the 'aqiqah for his child should invite people to eat it in his home or similar place. He may also distribute it as raw and cooked meat to the poor, his relatives, neighbors, friends, and others. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
