Free mixing of men and women at feasts

The second and fifth questions of fatwa number ( 6430 )
Q2: Is it permissible for a Muslim man to sit with his wife, or alone, at the same table as the host’s wife, whether the host is Muslim or non-Muslim, and whether the invitation was for him alone or a general invitation for many people?
A2: If the situation is as described, it is not permissible for him to sit with them in this state; because that is a cause of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). In fact, it is not permissible for him to accept the invitation; because of the cooperation in munkar (what is wrong) and silence about it, and making it a habit and custom. However, if they are mahram (a relative one may not marry), there is no harm in all of them eating together at one table. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
