Excess in Wedding Feasts

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 2886 )
Q: A difference has arisen regarding the wedding feast. Some tribes, whether from the city or the desert, have the father of the bride host a feast when the marriage contract is signed.
And when the bride’s wedding to her husband approaches, the husband hosts a feast and announces the marriage with music, singing, and various games. Some other groups differ by obligating the husband alone to provide all the contents of the wedding, including the feast and music, while the father is only concerned with collecting the money. I ask you, O honorable scholar, for the correct Islamic ruling on what has been mentioned above.

A: It is not permissible to be extravagant in wedding feasts, nor is it permissible to bring singers to hold a wedding party, nor is it permissible to listen to songs. If a disagreement occurs between the husband and the bride’s guardian, the matter should be referred to the court. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
