If a man embraces Islam and his wife, they do not renew their marriage contract

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 16654 )
Q2: A Christian man embraced Islam and his Islam was good, and his wife embraced Islam with him. He understood the religion, learned the Qur'an, and excelled in it. When people saw his diligence in Islam, they took him as their imam, but they doubt him and criticize his imamate because he did not renew the marriage contract in Islam, claiming that he must renew the marriage contract because he married her under a Christian or pre-Islamic contract. Does Islam validate a marriage contracted in the pre-Islamic age, or does it invalidate it?
A2: If a disbeliever embraces Islam, he and his wife (whether Christian or otherwise), they are not ordered to renew the contract; rather, they are confirmed in their contract as it was during their disbelief.
Because the disbelievers used to embrace Islam, they and their wives, during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he did not order any of them to renew the contract. And if a man's Islam is good, there is no harm in praying behind him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
