Fatwa No. ( 16075 )
Q: Is it permissible for Muslims, other than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), to marry the daughter of a paternal uncle, the daughter of a maternal aunt, the daughter of a maternal uncle, and the daughter of a paternal aunt, in accordance with the rulings of the Noble Qur'an?
A: The Shari'ah of Islam is a complete, clear, and moderate law; it contains no excess in forbidding the marriage of paternal or maternal aunts, nor any negligence in permitting the marriage of a sister or a sister's daughter; for Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ahzab 33:50]
And the fact that the address at the beginning of the verse is directed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) does not prevent the Ummah from being included with him; because the principle regarding an address directed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is that the Ummah is included in it by extension, except where evidence indicates that the ruling is specific to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as in the case of a woman offering herself in marriage, which is explicitly stated at the end of the aforementioned verse, namely His saying:[Al-Ahzab 33:50] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
