Q1: We live on the land of an island, which is a tourist area. When foreign people enter it, they take off their clothes, except for what covers their private parts, and they enter the shops in this state. Is it permissible for a Muslim woman to work in the shop alone or with her husband? I answered this question by saying that it is not permissible, in order to protect the woman from this sinful and oppressive society, and that it is better for her to remain in her seclusion, and Allah knows best. They said: They only saw a shaykh and asked him, and he said to them: Rather, the woman must come down and work beside her husband in his shop; so that the husband does not lean toward corruption. What is the decision between the two groups? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A1: It is not permissible for a woman to mix with foreign men, nor to engage in selling to them, given their state of being naked except for what covers the two private parts; this is to protect the woman and preserve her from fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and its causes.
