What is the permissible and the prohibited travel?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The prohibited travel...?

Answer:
Unlike what is explicitly stated.
So have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them?أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ
[Yusuf:109] to take a lesson, not for enjoyment.
Q: The prohibited kind, which involves humiliation of the self and worship, and also this hadith: there is no tourism in Islam?
The Shaykh:
The tourism of my people is striving in the path of Allahسياحة أمتي الجهاد في سبيل الله
Sunan Abi Dawud 2486Hasan (Al-Albani)
The tourism that does not involve supporting the religion or calling to Allah, tourism for looking at historical sites, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do not enter upon these people who are being punished, except in a weeping stateلا تدخلوا على هؤلاء المعذّبين إلا أن تكونوا باكين
Sahih al-Bukhari 4420
meaning his intention was not calling to Allah, teaching people, or guiding people, but rather his intention was passing through the land and seeing its people. This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do not enter upon them unless you are weepingلا تدخلوا عليهم إلا أن تكونوا باكين
to take a warning and be cautious of what befell them. But if one travels not just to pass through the lands, but to call to Allah, following the example of the Companions and following what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did in sending callers to the lands, to the rulers, and to places of need; there is no harm, for the sake of calling, teaching, guiding, and advising.
Q: What if one is not able to, if he goes to a country wanting to call to Allah but is not able to?
The Shaykh: If he is not able to, he does not go.
Q: Some people say: I am going for recreation and a change of scenery?
The Shaykh: In the lands of the Muslims, he travels to Abha, he travels to Makkah, he travels to a place where there is no danger.
