The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 5318 )
Q5: It is reported about 'Umar that he kissed the Stone and said:Sunan Ibn Majah 2943Sahih (Darussalam) . Did the Black Stone descend from the sky? Or is it a stone like other stones? And what is the purpose of placing this stone in that location? Some people think that it is the qiblah of the Muslims in their prayer, far be it from Allah.
A5: Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has distinguished the Black Stone by what He has prescribed for us of kissing it and touching it, and He intended for it to be in the corner of the Ka'bah which we face in our prayer, and He prescribed kissing it and touching it for those who perform tawaf, provided they are able to do so; if it is not feasible, then one should point to it when passing by it while saying takbir. A hadith was narrated by al-Tirmidhi and others that it descended from Paradise, but there is weakness in its chain. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Q5: It is reported about 'Umar that he kissed the Stone and said:
I know that you are only a stone and you can neither cause harm nor bring benefit. Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) kissing you, I would not have kissed you.
