Trimming the nails before entering the state of ihram
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 4448 )
Q2: Is it permissible for a man, when he enters the state of ihram from the miqat, to sit and trim his nails, or is it not permissible for him to do so until after he has slaughtered his sacrificial animal?
A2: If he does that before entering the state of ihram, there is no blame on him, unless he intends to offer a sacrifice and the month of Hajj has already begun, in which case it is not permissible for him to do so; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it. As for doing that after entering the state of ihram, meaning after the intention to enter the state of ihram, it is not permissible at all; because the one in the state of ihram is not allowed to trim his nails or take anything from his hair, except when he has finished his tawaf and sa'y for 'Umrah, in which case he exits the state of ihram by shaving or shortening the hair, and likewise in Hajj when he stons the Jamarat al-Aqabah, it is prescribed for him to shave or shorten the hair, and shaving is better. Then he exits the state of ihram, whether that is before the slaughter or after it, and it is better if it is after the slaughter, if that is feasible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
