Covering the Head
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 7783 )
Q: I wish to perform Hajj, if Allah wills. My problem is that I am a bald man with no hair covering my head, and my skin is very sensitive. Any sun exposure affects my health, causing severe inflammation of the scalp and the appearance of veins on the head, and on the face in general. As you know, covering the head is among the prohibitions of ihram, I ask your permission to issue a ruling on this situation, knowing that I am a short man and cannot carry an umbrella because it would harm those around me. May Allah protect you and guide your steps.
A: If the matter is as you described, you should cover your head while in a state of ihram, and you must pay an expiation by slaughtering a sheep to feed the poor in Makkah , or by feeding six poor people in the sacred precinct: each poor person receives half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of dates or other staple food of the country, or by fasting for three days. This applies to ihram for Hajj, and likewise, if you enter ihram for 'Umrah, you must pay another expiation. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
