Masturbation by a Fasting Person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The first question of Fatwa No. ( 2192 )

Q1: If a Muslim’s desire is aroused during the day in Ramadan and he finds no way out except to masturbate, does his fast become invalid, and does he have to make up the fast or pay an expiation in this case?
A1: Masturbation in Ramadan and otherwise is forbidden; it is not permissible to do it; because Allah the Exalted said:
(5) And they who guard their private parts (6) Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed - (7) But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ (29) إِلا عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ (30) فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ
[Al-Mu'minun 23:5-7]
And whoever does it during the day in Ramadan while fasting must repent to Allah and make up the fast for that day on which he did it, and there is no expiation; because the expiation was only prescribed specifically for intercourse.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
