The questioner : I angered my mother several times, to the point of insulting her, cursing her, and speaking to her in an inappropriate manner for trivial reasons, thinking that she loved my older brother more than me because of her bad treatment of me. I know that her anger is from the anger of Allah and her pleasure is from the pleasure of Allah. Now she is speaking to me and is pleased with me. What should I do to atone for what I did? Guide us, may Allah reward you.
The Shaykh : Angering your mother and speaking to her in that bad way is forbidden and not permissible, because Allah the Exalted says:[Al-Isra 17:23-24], and a man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Who is the most deserving of my good companionship, O Messenger of Allah?" This is evidence that being good to the mother is more obligatory and more emphasized than to the father. Nevertheless, both the mother and the father have rights that a person must fulfill. If a person commits a wrong against his parents or one of them, the way to escape such a situation is to seek their forgiveness. If he seeks their forgiveness and they pardon him and are pleased with him, then repentance wipes out what came before, and he will not be punished for what he did if Allah the Exalted knows the sincerity of his repentance and his sincerity in it.

The Shaykh : Angering your mother and speaking to her in that bad way is forbidden and not permissible, because Allah the Exalted says:
(23) And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (24) And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
