Leasing a taxi license number
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 7699 )
Q2: When the government in our country permits a citizen to open a taxi and licenses him, they make him swear by Allah, Mighty and Majestic, when giving him the taxi number, that he will not lease this number to anyone else, and that he will work with it himself, and if he no longer needs the number, he will return it to the traffic department. However, some people engage in leasing the number, meaning they give the car number to another person on the condition that he pays him a specific amount of money at the end of the year. He does not lease this number except knowing that the person to whom he is leasing it is in dire need of it, such that he has no other source of income or livelihood. Is this work permissible for him, even though he swore by Allah not to do such a thing? Please answer us.
A2: It is not permissible for him to lease the number under any circumstances, and if he does lease it, he has committed a sin; because he is violating the pledge taken from him by the one in authority regarding what is his right. He owes an expiation for the oath for breaking his oath, and he must repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness for what occurred from him, and he must adhere to what he pledged to his authority. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
